Miles per UK gallon (mpg (imp)) to Miles per gallon (mpg) Conversion
Miles per UK gallon
Miles per UK gallon (mpg imp) measures fuel economy using the imperial gallon (4.54609 L), which is approximately 20% larger than the US gallon. As a result, the same vehicle achieves a higher mpg figure by the UK standard than by the US standard — a 40 mpg UK figure equals approximately 33.3 mpg US for the same vehicle. The UK mpg is still used in British automotive journalism and official government fuel economy testing, though EU-harmonised L/100km data is increasingly common since Brexit.
Miles per gallon
Miles per gallon (mpg) is the US customary measure of fuel economy, expressing how many miles a vehicle can travel on one US gallon (3.785 L) of fuel. Higher values indicate greater efficiency. It is the official fuel economy standard in the United States and is published on all new vehicle window stickers (Monroney labels) under EPA ratings. To convert US mpg to litres per 100 km, divide 235.215 by the mpg value — so 30 mpg equals approximately 7.84 L/100km. US mpg should not be confused with UK mpg, which uses the larger imperial gallon and produces higher numbers for the same vehicle.
