Miles per UK gallon (mpg imp) measures fuel economy using the imperial gallon (4.54609 L), which is approximately 20% larger than the US gallon. As a result, the same vehicle achieves a higher mpg figure by the UK standard than by the US standard — a 40 mpg UK figure equals approximately 33.3 mpg US for the same vehicle. The UK mpg is still used in British automotive journalism and official government fuel economy testing, though EU-harmonised L/100km data is increasingly common since Brexit.

Liters per 100 kilometers

Litres per 100 kilometres (L/100 km) is the standard fuel consumption measure in Europe, Australia, Canada, and most of the world outside the US.
